Breathing new life into the publication, the forthcoming Anthology competition, a new editor & a slight re-brand

So Going Forward…

Anna and I will be managing the publication together and sharing responsibilities. Anna will be the one responsible for editing, providing feedback and scheduling your submissions. She is a fulltime writer and freelance editor with a specific focus on literary standards. I will publish the weekly Storymaker Letters, which will feature some of the best submissions material from the previous seven days.

Social Sharing

We automatically tee up every post in our social media scheduler. It’s called SocailBee if you’d like to check it out for yourself. It’s a 360 degree RSS feed, so every new article or poem you publish goes into the endless looping feed. In other words, we’re sharing your stuff around the clock 365 days per year. We’re on Twitter, follow us there!

A Quick Word From Anna

Dear Storymakers, salute!

What Storymaker is about

Storymaker celebrates art and creativity in written form. Poetry, short stories, creative non-fiction, and essays are welcome. Write about life, death, love, hate and everything in between. Express what you feel in a few short lines or a few thousand words. We wish to showcase your interpretation of the world and the people in it. What is your story, and what are the challenges you face with your daily work? We want that too. In other words; offer your experience and advice to the community through your stories.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking content that speaks of the creative spirit, interpretation of the world in which you live, and reflects your passion for your work. We are not hard on spelling and grammar because we expect that sometimes your work contains specific nuances that do not take into account what we would typically call “good English”.

  • Short Stories
  • Essays
  • Articles describing your creative process and experience as an artist/writer
  • Culturally relevant articles on Art & Creativity
  • Chick-lit
  • Life hacking
  • Political discourse
  • Pornographic writing

Please Use Tags

Tags are essential; they help readers find your work. So, if you’re submitting poetry, use the tag Poetry. Submitting a short story? Use the Short Story tag. Writing on creativity? Use the tag, Creativity. And of course, try always to add the tag, Art to your submission.

👉The Anthology Competition

So Anna and I were thinking hard about how we can create value for our community of writers, and we decided to create an anthology of the best content on Storymaker. Poetry and fiction prose is what we are after, and the best of it will go to print in 2020.

The Theme

The theme we have set is “city life”, and the anthology will be titled; Stories From People From The City. Your poetry or prose should tell a tale of city life, the love, hate, life and death of people. Write about their challenges to survive and to grow, their endeavours to find themselves within the noise and mania that they endure in the urban sprawl. Live in the city? Write about it. Live in the countryside? Write about its contrast with the concrete jungle. Put your blood and sweat on to the page — give your story the emotionalism of your experience.

Printing, Publishing & Getting Paid

The book will be available on Amazon in ebook and print form and writers of stories that make the cut will share the profit. Full disclosure on costs and income will be published here in Storymaker Letters. The finer details we will need to work out and will let you know those as we progress, but this is likely to be a 4 to 6 month project.

How to Contribute

Just publish your best work on Storymaker and include the tag; Anthology2020. The only stipulation right now is that it is new and original content. Please don’t take old content you have published on another Medium publication and submit it to Storymaker for this competition because it will no be chosen. Besides, we’d like you to create something new.

Our New Identity

We’re looking at a few options for a slight rebrand and would love your input. Here’s the logo we’re playing with…what you reckon?
